The Axis’s poplar body, complete with its quilted maple veneer and color-matched headstock, offers all the benefits of other hard tonewoods but in eye-catching patterned colors. Similar in sound to Alder, poplar has quickly become a widespread tonewood due to its balanced, stable sound. Add an in-house-designed double-locking tremolo for stability and tonal expression, and you get an instrument with buckets of sustain that stays in tune through every dip, dive, and bend.
When it comes to pickups, Sterling by Music Man doesn’t pull any punches. Two in-house-engineered passive alnico humbuckers have been precision-built for flavor and variety, with the capability of dishing out high heat, simmering soul, and everything in between. The 3-way pickup selector and volume control knob allow you to fine-tune your sound.
Not just tonally impressive, the roasted maple neck is structurally resilient and less susceptible to temperature and humidity changes. This makes it a great choice for gigging musicians, rockers on the road, or anyone in a humid climate who might appreciate less time with their truss rod. A 5-bolt system securely mounts the neck to the body; meanwhile, a generous cutaway means unfettered access to all 22 narrow frets. The asymmetrical neck profile measures 1.65 inches at the nut, widening to 2.2 inches at the last fret. Finally, the 12-inch fingerboard radius accommodates players of a variety of styles, and the 25.5-inch scale means more compositional flexibility.
