A Monster Bass with Monster Tone
Ibanez’s SRAS7 is by far one of the most original basses anyone at AJ’s Music & The Music Man has encountered, and it’s one of the coolest we’ve gotten to play. Coming straight from the concept kitchen of tone that is Ibanez’s Bass Workshop, this monster hybrid fretted/fretless bass features seven strings and all the tones you could ask for. The first three strings are fretless and cover the lower register, which is covered again by the SRAS7’s top four strings, so you can effortlessly switch playing styles without getting lost on the fingerboard. To make the most of this unique design, Ibanez went with custom Super J Ashula pickups and loaded it with roundwound and flatwound strings. And with its poplar burl top, this is one bizarre bass you’ll want to take home.
The Ibanez Bass Workshop has done it again
For years AJ’s Music & The Music Man has witnessed the Ibanez Bass Workshop’s unfettered dedication to designing, crafting, and releasing some of the most killer basses on the market. Now, the SRAS7 Ashula joins their ranks. This bass boasts a lightweight and tonally warm okoume body topped with gorgeous poplar burl/ash. This solid tonal foundation then finds a match in the 7-piece maple/walnut/bubinga neck capped with rosewood on the fretted side and bubinga on the fretless side. To lock in plenty of resonance and keep intonation rock solid, this monster of a bass features Ibanez’s Mono-rail V bridge. With this bridge, each saddle is independently adjustable and sonically isolated to prevent sound bleeding from other strings yet transfer maximum vibration to the body.
Outfitted for tonal success
Offering the best of both worlds, the SRAS7 Ashula offers bassists two unique pickup systems. For the fretless side, players can access the Ibanez AeroSilk piezo system that gives you the upright bass tones that you’ve been looking for. Not just another piezo system, the AeroSilk system was custom-built using plastic saddles at the bridge to enhance the “acoustic” bass tone. Conversely, the fretted side offers two Super J Ashula pickups that pack the desired electric punch. And of course, Ibanez included plenty of EQ options to assist you towards your optimum tone whether you’re jamming on the fret side of things or kicking it devoid of fingerboard obstructions.
