This solidbody electric guitar boasts a basswood body with classic shred aerodynamics, along with an upgraded 5-piece Super Wizard neck and a fast-playing bound 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. Electronics-wise, the 540PIII dishes out warm, articulate leads with truckloads of harmonic overtones, thanks to an IBZ V8 bridge humbucker, which is bolstered by a rail-style single-coil-sized humbucker in the neck position. The 540PIII’s high-end complement of shred-sanctioned hardware includes an original Edge double-locking tremolo and Gotoh tuning machines. Fast Super Wizard neck

The original 540PII sported a 1-piece maple Wizard neck — the standard Ibanez neck shape at the time of the guitar’s limited-production release in 1987. This reissued 540PIII reflects the decades of Ibanez innovation that have since passed, upgrading its already-ergonomic playability with a modern 5-piece maple/walnut Super Wizard neck. The just-right feel provided by this neck encourages lightning-fast runs, arpeggios, and hammer-ons. Capping the neck is a bound 24-fret rosewood fingerboard, loaded with jumbo frets that are perfect for big note bends. Beyond that, the 540PIII brandishes a reverse headstock for period-correct visual appeal.

Potent Ibanez pickups

Back in 1987, Ibanez equipped the 540PII with an IBZ V2 humbucker and an S1 single-coil pickup. While the V2 is certainly a powerful high-output humbucker, its relatively tame high end can get quite muddy unless you keep your controls wide open. This modern 540PIII , on the other hand, comes loaded with a newer IBZ V8 humbucker, enabling you to achieve warm, yet articulate lead tones with enhanced harmonic overtones and enough high-end sizzle to accommodate all levels of knob-twisting expression. Finally, the V8 is complemented by a rail-style single-coil-sized humbucker in the neck position, volume and a lever-style pickup selector.

Original Edge double-locking tremolo

The late-‘80s 540PII included Ibanez’s original Edge tremolo, which was a high-end licensed version of the era’s most prominent double-locking model. This reissued 540PIII follows suit, equipping you with what many guitarists have described as one of the finest locking trems ever built.
